Dr. Vasyl Koval Visited University of Siegen
Dr. Vasyl Koval visited University of Siegen within a joint research project Development of stereovision methods and devices for autonomous navigation of mobile robots. This visit concurred with the 20 anniversary of the Sensor Systems Center, ZESS, www.zess.uni-siegen.de. During the visit participated in the "Winter School on Mobile Exploration and the IPP", http://www.zess.uni-siegen.de/ws_09/winter_school_09/ which was held in Siegen from October 28 to November 4, 2009 and where were presented the research results and achievements in the area of mobile application.

Dr. Vasyl Koval presented the Group of Intelligent Robotic Systems of the Reseach Institute for Intelligent Computer Systems and it's achievements in the area of stereocamera calibration, 3D reconstructing for autonomous robot navigation. German partners presented their Department of Electrotechnics and Computer Sciences, particularly the research results in area of mobile robot navigation, sensor readings processing, 2D/3D image processing and PMD-camera.

During the visit there was discussed a plan for future common investigations with the German partner. Finally, there was prepared a Memorandum of Understanding between Ternopil National Economic University and University of Siegen.

 
Research Links with Lithuania are Strengthening
Prof. Anatoly Sachenko, the Head of Department of Information-Computer Systems and Control and the ICS Scientific Advisor visited Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania in October 26-31, 2009 within the framework of Ukrainian - Lithuanian Research Project “ Development of 3D localization methods for the Autonomous Robot Navigation”. Anatoly Sachenko had a business meeting with Dr. Leonas BALASEVICIUS, Deputy Vice Rector for Research (KTU). They exchanged information about main results of the research work and discussed a strategy of future collaboration. He also visited Center for Mechatronics (Director Prof. Ramutis Bansevicius), and the Institute of Automation and Control (Director Prof. Rimvydas Simutis), and Center of Computer Technologies (Director Prof. Rimantas Seinauskas). Finally both sides were agreed to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding between two universities.
 
PhD. Student Andrii Borovyi's Award
Ph. D. Student Andrii Borovyi has been granted with the scholarship by Greek State Scholarship Foundation within the "SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMME (2009-2010) FOR POSTGRADUATE/POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES IN GREECE OFFERED TO NATIONALS OF THE BALKANS, CENTRAL - EASTERN EUROPE (NON MEMBERS OF E.U.), ASIA, AFRICA AND LATIN AMERICA" in 2009. The goal of this research visit is the collection of the real-time measurements for improving accuracy of the neural-network based power-consumption model of ARM7TDMI CPU core.
 
Visitors from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Prof. George Davida and Prof. Michael Vnuk, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (USA) visited ICS on October 25, 2009. Prof. Anatoly Sachenko has made a presentation about ICS frame and activities and the members of each of the ICS research groups presented results of their research work.
 
ICS Delegation Visited Technical University of Sofia
From October 4 to October 10, 2009 a working visit was held by Dr. Ihor Paliy and Mr. Yuriy Kurylyak to the Technical University of Sofia. This visit was performed within a joint research project “Human Biometric Identification in Video Surveillance Systems” , supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine under agreement M/205-2009. On Monday, October 5 there was an introductory meeting with Dr. Ognian Boumbarov and Mr. Strahil Sokolov as well as other staff of the Department for Radio Communication and Video Technologies. During the meeting there were presented main scientific results on this project.
